Chow Gar — The Origins: The Animated Series Has Begun
We made something different — an animated series about where this system actually came from. Chow Gar — The Origins tells the story of Chow Ah Naam. The founder. The man behind the system you train.
We made something.
Not a course module. Not a technique breakdown. Something different — an animated series about where this system actually came from.
Chow Gar — The Origins tells the story of Chow Ah Naam. The founder. The man behind the system you train.
He was not born powerful. He was born small, pale, and physically weak. He was knocked down in a market alley at ten years old. His father told him no. He trained in secret anyway — alone, in the dark, with no teacher and no method.
That stubbornness is the origin of everything we do.
Episode 1: The Boy
The first episode is out now.
It covers Chow Ah Naam's childhood — the humiliation in the market alley, his father's closed door, the nights alone in the garden trying to find something he had no name for. And then one afternoon, a travelling martial artist stops in the market square and moves in a way the boy has never seen before.
Nothing dramatic happens. Nobody wins a fight. Nobody gets a revelation.
Just a boy who watches. And refuses to stop.
That is where Chow Gar begins.
Why We Made This
The system has an oral tradition. Stories passed down — not always written, not always precise, but alive in the way lineage knowledge is alive.
We wanted to put those stories on screen.
Not as a documentary. Not as a history lecture. As a story — the kind you watch and feel, not just understand.
Grandmaster Ip Chee Keung transmitted this system to us. Part of that transmission is knowing where it came from and why it is the way it is. This series is our attempt to pass that on.
What's Coming
Season 1 follows Chow Ah Naam from childhood through his years at the Fujian Shaolin monastery — the illness, the road, the years of work before anyone taught him anything, the encounter with the praying mantis, and the birth of the system.
Episode 2 is already in production.
Chow Gar — The Origins is produced by MyChowGar. The series is inspired by the oral tradition of the Chow Gar Southern Praying Mantis lineage. It is not a historical reconstruction — it follows the spirit of what was transmitted, not the archive.
